Happy 2013! We opened our 2nd semester with a wonderful role-play presentation from the 6th grade students. The showed the VES students the three ways they can react in a bullying situation. Our focus was on showing the students how to react ASSERTIVELY (standing up respectively) instead of passive (giving in) or aggressive (hurting back). October is Bullying Awareness month! At VES our focus this month is on how we can stay SAFE!

Services of grade school counselor:
1. Large group (classroom) guidance (character education)
2. Small group counseling
3. Individual counseling
4. Consultation with parents, teachers and administrators

School counselor will help...
1. Students:
  • understand themselves and others in relation to the world in which they live.
  • cope with emotional crisis.
  • prevent major problems before they occur.
  • encourage better peer relations.
  • learn coping skills, conflict resolution, decision-making skills, anger control, and communication skills.
  • work through academic challenges.
2. Parents:
  • understand the growth and development of their children.
  • develop realistic perceptions of their children's development in relation to their potential.
  • provide parenting skills and/or behavior management techniques for their children.
3. Teachers:
  • encourage the positive growth and development of all children.
  • provide techniques and ideas for students who have a special need.
